On May 1, 2024, City University of New York (CUNY) addressed the recent events that unfolded at The City College of New York. In a statement, CUNY highlighted the actions taken following the incidents at the campus.

CUNY Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez and CCNY President Vincent Boudreau expressed gratitude to the campus public safety officers and staff for their support during the challenging times. They visited the CCNY campus to acknowledge the efforts of those who assisted the campus community on Tuesday night.

The statement mentioned that City College's Administration Building, Marshak Building, and grounds were subjected to damage by demonstrators. The protesters broke into the Administration Building, causing destruction by smashing glass doors, vandalizing walls, and leaving behind items such as chains, flares, a bolt cutter, and box cutters. The cost of repairs is yet to be determined as CUNY continues to assess the extent of the damage.

Despite the incidents, CUNY reiterated its commitment to upholding values of free expression and respecting the First Amendment rights of all students. The public safety measures taken were in response to acts of violence and vandalism, not peaceful protests. CUNY emphasized its dedication to maintaining a community free from violence, intimidation, and harassment.

As the situation unfolds, CUNY remains focused on addressing the aftermath of the events at The City College of New York and ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.
