St. John’s University Public Relations students are making strides towards promoting sustainability on their campus. Under the guidance of Dr. Tiffany L. Mohr, Assistant Professor and Director of the Public Relations program, students have been actively engaging with various stakeholders to discuss and implement initiatives for a more eco-friendly environment.

During a recent presentation to employees, Francesca, Jeramiah, and Christina, alongside their peers, shared their ideas for addressing sustainability issues at St. John’s University. Francesca emphasized the importance of intensifying sustainability efforts while setting realistic goals for a safer and healthier campus. Christina highlighted the need for transparent marketing and collaboration with like-minded organizations on campus.

Jeramiah stressed the significance of engaging employees who can influence policies and messaging, aiming to not only impact communication but also foster tangible changes in the campus community. The students have proposed initiatives such as green roofs and solar panels to build upon the University's existing sustainability practices and inspire fellow students to take action.

In their pursuit of messaging transparency and student engagement, the group aims to promote sustainability through clear communication and awareness. Jeramiah expressed satisfaction in seeing employees actively participate in discussions about sustainability, paving the way for more formal policy and implementation talks in the future.

The students are set to host an Earth Day Celebration in the D’Angelo Center lobby on April 24 from 2 to 4 p.m., further emphasizing their commitment to creating a sustainable legacy at St. John’s University.
